On Wednesday 20th, Year 5 Willow class visited Brockholes Nature Reserve. During this curriculum enrichment trip, the children applied their knowledge of OS maps and six-figure grid references to navigate from the floating village to Viking Woods, working brilliantly as a team using maps and the eight points of the compass.
Once there, they created their own maps using natural materials, carefully using a compass to position features accurately. After a break and lunch, we revisited our learning about rivers before heading to the River Ribble to spot key features.
The children then returned to the woods to create and present nature-inspired river artwork. It was a fantastic day that really extended our geographical learning, and the children were excellent representatives of St Bernadette’s.
