Our science topics are ‘Rocks and Soils’ and ‘Plants and Growth’. The children will be expected to use practical skills of observation and measuring. We will have opportunities to use the school garden as part of these topics. The subject will be enhanced by a day trip to the nature centre at RSPB Leighton Moss.
Our topic of Life in the Risen Christ will begin with a look at the importance of Easter and Pentecost. Then we will focus on the challenges and rewards of being a Christian.
Summer PE will be athletics and ball games, cricket, rounders and lacrosse.
Art / Design Technology
We will be investigating children’s illustrators with a special study of Quentin Blake. We will practise line drawing for characters.
The children will investigate levers and linkages and use this knowledge to design and make a greetings card with moving parts
Geography / History
The children will look at the rainforests; where they are in the world, the life that is found there and the threats to the ecology of the rainforest.
We will look at local history, focussing on Lancaster’s relationship with the sea.
We will begin to learn the recorder and then review our music knowledge from the past year.
The children will be learning to use the ipads and computers for graphing, simulations and branching databases.
The topics in French are ‘Les Animaux’ and ‘Petite Chaperon Rouge’. We will continue to share with penpals in our sister school in France.
We will continue working on standard methods of calculation and times tables. The new topics for summer will be Data Handling, Fractions and Shape and Space.
This term we will be looking at Roald Dahl, at his life and his work. We will study ‘James and the Giant Peach’ in depth as well as looking at his biography and his other works of poetry and prose. We will continue to revise study elements of grammar and composition.
Why not complete this trail set by Lancaster University Engineering Department? You could take photos along the way and keep a diary/information book of the trail.
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we look for new ways for our pupils to stay active and improve mental and physical well-being, we have recently ordered a skipping rope for each pupil (#RopestopupilsChristmas) from Dan the Skipping Man.
This is a gift to say a big thank you for their hard work this year.
Your child will be receiving their skipping rope very shortly, if they have not already.
The aim is for the skipping ropes to be used alongside the video resources online from Dan the Skipping Man.
After the Christmas break we would like the children to bring the skipping ropes back to school, so they can be kept within their class bubble. They will be used in PE lessons and break times when they are permitted to carry on with this great initiative.

Here is your welcome video to give your children some inspiration: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WUxZOLgaqJS3VVJxHRNKNl0UXEj1Bocd/view?usp=sharing
Please encourage your children to try these new skills, tricks and challenges, to stay healthy and most of all have fun!
Merry Christmas and Happy Skipping!
