Yearly Curriculum Plan
Science
In the unit ‘Forces’ the children will be able to; explain that objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity, identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, recognise that some mechanisms (levers, pulleys and gears) allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
In the unit, ‘Earth and Space’, children will be able to describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun, describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth.
Religious Education
We will be looking at God’s gifts to us human gifts and qualities and how they can be used, neglected or abused
the gift of Creation and our responsibility as stewards. We will also be looking at the corporal works of mercy.
PE
Netball, bench ball, cross country, Quick sticks Hockey and Tag Rugby.
Art / Design Technology
In Art and Design, we will be looking at Sculpture, using clay, linking to our class novel Holes. In DT, we will be looking at Levers and pulleys to tie in with our science topic, Forces.
History / Geography
In History, we will look at Britain’s settlement by the Anglo Saxons, including significant dates.
In Geography, we will learn that rivers and river systems, are dynamic; changing the landscape in visible and at times dramatic ways.
Music
We will be looking at Rock and Jazz (Billie Holiday), listening and appraising, improvising and composing.
ICT
Using Purple Mash we will be looking at coding with variables, online safety and searching the internet whilst ensuring reliability.
French
Using Language Angels we will be studying the units, ‘Do you have a pet?’ and ‘What is the date?’
Maths
Number – Place Value, Number – Addition and Subtraction, Statistics, Number – Multiplication and Division, Perimeter and Area.
English
In English, we will be studying biographies and autobiographies, (writing a biography of Sir Isaac Newton to tie in with our science topic, ‘Forces’), Beowulf, Instructions and explanations, Travel Writing and Observational poetry.
Science
In the unit, ‘Properties and the Changes of Materials’, children will compare and group together materials on the basis of their properties and know that some will dissolve in liquid to form a solution. We will use knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated and demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes.
Religious Education
We will be looking at the rite
of Reconciliation and its significance, including the development of conscience through regular examination. We will be performing the story of Jesus death and resurrection in our Easter play.
PE
Swimming, dance, floor gymnastics, circuits.
Geography / History
In History, we will be studying The Vikings, in particular; where they came from?, why they invaded and settled and what made them so successful?
Geography, we will be looking at Map skills and learning where the countries of the world are.
Music
We will be learning to sing, play, improvise and compose Reggae as well as practising our Easter Play musical.
ICT
Using Purple Mash, we will be looking at spreadsheets, databases and Game Creator.
French
The Weather – vocabulary and listening activities. Clothes – vocabulary and introduction of the verb ‘porter’ to wear.
Maths
Number – Multiplication and Division, Number – Fractions, Number – Decimals and Percentages. Arithmetic and Times Tables practice.
English
We will be studying spooky short stories and writing one of our own! We will study Macbeth. We will look at argument and debate, reports and journalistic writing and poetic style.
Science
We will be studying the unit, ‘Living things and their habitats’. The children will learn to describe the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird. They will describe the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals. The children will also study and ‘Animals (including humans)’ where they will describe the changes as humans develop to old age.
Religious Education
This term, we will be looking at the difference Jesus’ Resurrection makes to us, Pentecost, The Sacrament of the Sick, Building the Kingdom of God and Judaism.
PE
Athletics, rounders, cricket and orienteering.
Art / Design Technology
In Art and Design we will be looking at the artist Hokusai using watercolour pencils to line draw. In DT, we will be looking at the designer Mary Quant and working with textiles.
Geography / History
In Geography, we will be looking at North America and comparing the Grand Canyon to Lancaster. We will be studying the Ancient Egyptian civilisation in History looking at the role the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish and examine daily life, comparing it to our own.
Music
We will Listen and appraise the Classical music of Benjamin Britten.
ICT
Using Purple Mash, we will be making 3d Models then looking at concept maps to solve problems using digital tools.
French
Using Language Angels, we will explore Units entitled, The Romans and Habitats.
Maths
Decimals, Geometry – Properties of Shape, Geometry – Position and Direction, Measurement – Converting Units, Measures – Volume.
English
Kensuke’s Kingdom
Non chronological reports, Poetry – the power of imagery, fantasy short stories and persuasive writing.
