Elm Class Brockholes Visit

Elm Class had a wonderful time on their visit to Brockholes Nature Reserve in Preston, where they spent the day exploring the woodland and using the natural environment to inspire their learning.

The children took part in a range of creative outdoor activities, using natural materials to design their own artwork. They worked together to create giant leaf firework pictures on the woodland floor, using colourful autumn leaves to mimic the sparkle and burst of real fireworks. Some pupils chose to make mini Guy Fawkes stickmen, carefully selecting sticks, moss and leaves to bring their characters to life.

Working collaboratively, groups also constructed miniature Houses of Parliament, gathering sticks, stones and foliage to replicate the famous building—sparking lots of conversation about the Gunpowder Plot.

To finish the day, the class had the exciting opportunity to learn about safe fire lighting. Under close adult supervision, they explored how to create a controlled fire in a safe environment and even had a go at using a fire striker. Once the fire was lit, everyone enjoyed warming up and toasting some tasty treats together.
