Easter Field Football Tournament

On Easter Monday, Mr Karim, Mrs Wood and Mr Bateson (school governor) attended The Easter Field Football Tournament. Twenty two teams from Lancaster and Morecambe and surrounding district attended. The tournament took place at Lancaster City Football Stadium . St Bernadette’s had a Girls team made up of girls from Years 3,4,5 and 6 and a boys team  from Years 3,4,5 and 6. Both teams did amazingly and achieved way beyond the expectations of a school the size of St Bernadette’s. This was echoed by staff from various schools taking part. The Girls team won all 5 of their group games and then overcame Willow Lane in the semi-finals to then face Lancaster Road in the Final, the match ended 0-0 after normal time and extra time and unfortunately, they we’re just pipped at the post losing 3-2 on penalties.

The Boys comfortably won their group and then beat Slyne with Hest on penalties in the semi-final. Again, unfortunately after a very entertaining and tough match in the final they narrowly just lost out 1-0 to Moorside who were an extremely strong side all consisting of Year 6 boys.

For the children to achieve runners up position in both the girls’ and boys’ tournaments is an incredible achievement. Well done to all involved your attitude, dedication, team spirit and hard work was something you should all be proud of, and you made all your parents, family and school very proud. The opportunity to play in front of hundreds of people in proper football stadium is something that you and your family will never forget.
