Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 took part in a very exciting Earth and Space roadshow delivered by staff and students from Lancaster University. All the children were fascinated by the secrets of space and to learn what life is really like beyond Planet Earth in the infinate size of the universe. The children learnt that the temperature on Pluto is -225°C which is even colder than liquid nitrogen at -196°C. To see the effects of such temperatures, the children discovered what happened when a balloon was placed in liquid nitrogen, to our amazement the balloon shrank then reversed back to its original shape. We observed flowers becoming brittle and bluetac and toys becomming hard.

Afterwards, Year 5 planned and designed their own planets. We used crafting materials and used our vivid imaginations to create wonderful works of art. Some of our planets had volcanoes, craters, mountains, rings, tornados and much more. The children should be immensly proud of themselves, check out below to see what we did!
