St Bernadette’s Journey through Lent
Mrs. Shoulder’s Lenten message,

Lent is a time of preparation, a time to get ready for the sacrifices and celebrations of the Easter season. As a faith community, we are busy preparing ourselves by making more time to pray, listen to scripture and ‘live simply’ and in so doing bring ourselves closer to God.

Throughout Lent, we will be extremely busy raising money for a variety of different charities. We are learning that helping others is rewarding and fulfilling and we are having the most fun possible when doing it! So far we have had a ‘PJ day’ and a ‘Bobble hat day’ in school and are very much looking forward to all our other Lenten activities. But the concept of ‘almsgiving’ or giving to charity goes much deeper. In listening and responding to the teachings of Jesus which encourage us to reach out to people in need—not just with our money—but with our time and our talents. Today we might call it ‘stewardship’.

So this Lent, think carefully about how you will share your time, your talents and your treasure during Lent. Keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”

(Acts 20:35).

We hope you enjoy the EnviroLent Calendar challenges, that you make time to reflect on the scripture and prayers of the Lenten planner and take some quiet time to read the prayer and activity books you will receive as part of our whole school Lenten preparations.

God Bless, Mrs Shoulder
